Chrissy Teigen set her Twitter account to protected on Sunday as the fallout from her kerfuffle with food writer Alison Roman continued.
Teigen was on the defensive after Roman, 34, criticized her food projects and social media accounts as a 'content farm' in an interview with The New Consumer on Thursday.
She opened up about the dispiriting experience on Twitter after random social media users began harassing her following Roman's comments.
'I really hate what this drama has caused this week. Calling my kids Petri dish babies or making up flight manifests with my name on them to “Epstein island”, to justify someone else’s disdain with me seems gross to me so I’m gonna take a little break,' she wrote.
She made her account protected, so that only existing followers could see her tweets, and future followers would need to be approved by her.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model commented obliquely on how people online had begun attacking her following an initial wave of supportive posts.
'This is what always happens. The first day, a ton of support, then the next, 1 million reasons as to why you deserved this. It never fails.'
Teigen's decision to step back from her public life came after she learned more about Roman's alleged feelings toward her.
After the New York Times and Bon Appétit writer tweeted out an apology to Chrissy, another user replied with extra details calling her sincerity into question.
'Dude you also mouthed “she’s so annoying” and elaborated on how much you don’t like her *weeks ago* on the Murmurr broadcast. So weird that you’re acting like this was an isolated thing,' wrote on user.
The tweet seemed to have caught Chrissy eye, and she replied: 'Good to know.'
Later, the fan clarified she wasn't trying to drag the Chrissy's Court star into the fray again.
'I intentionally did not tag you in my reply to her because I didn’t want to add to your hurt and I’m really sorry if I did. (& Christines gotta stand up for Christines).'
Teigen simply replied: 'It’s okay, girl. Don’t feel bad.'
Teigen seemed to boost her mood on Sunday by sharing a sweet photo of her daughter Luna, four, riding on a toy horse.
'I'm on a horse,' she captioned it.
Luna wore a cute pink dress, with a pink bow tying her curly hair back and pink heart-shaped sunglasses.
Another set of three portraits showed her with her brother Miles, two, who wore a pink button up shirt and pink and white striped shorts.
One of the photos featured him sobbing while Luna smiled obliviously at his side.
'She had a successful cookbook. And then it was like: Boom, line at Target. Boom, now she has an Instagram page that has over a million followers where it's just, like, people running a content farm for her. That horrifies me and it’s not something that I ever want to do. I don’t aspire to that.'
Roman also criticized Japanese decluttering guru Marie Kondo for putting her name on a line of products (despite also selling her own cooking utensils), which some users saw as a pattern of criticizing women of color.
After saying she had been a fan of Roman for years, Chrissy described being 'so bummed out' by her words in a tweet threat, before eventually suggesting they unfollow each other.
