A team of auditorswere dispatched to different state offices of JAMB to take inventory of the sold and unsold scratch cards and recover whatever money that might have either been generated or mismanaged during the period of the sale of scratch cards.During their visit to Makurdi's JAMB office, a saleswoman, Philomina Chieshe, told the JAMB Registrar and her team that she could not account for the $ 36 million she had accumulated in previous years before abolition of scratch cards. During her interrogation, Philomena admitted that it was her maid who had used another JAMA member, Joan Asen, to "spiritually" steal money from the accounting office vault. Philomina in her confessional statement stated that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they were stealing money "spiritually" through a mysterious snake that always sneaks into the office to swallow money from the vault.
