Rukkayya,said that her parents-in-law often harassed her not to conceive and after the death of her husband; she was threatened and intimidated and accused of bringing misfortune to the family, and was eventually expelled from the house. "As you can see, I am in Takaba (for the 40-day mourning period) but they did not allow me to observe him in this house and continued to insult me, threatening me", she said.
Rukkayya also explained that her in-laws did not allow her husband to be buried in the Islamic way; rather, his burial was done in the traditional way with the claim that he was not a Muslim. According to her, she married her husband after converting to Islam nine years ago. She has since brought an action for damages
