Nollywood top actresses, Adesua Etomi and Toyin Abraham spoke on the improvement for the movie industry during their session at the NECLive5.
In the session tagged ‘How Nollywood Is Reclaiming The Market from Hollywood’, Toyin asked Adesua on her Actors Guild of Nigeria membership.
Adesua, in her defence, argued that she’s not a member of the Guild because ‘the actors guild isn’t well structured.’
Toyin then pointed at her and referred to her as one of the problems affecting the industry.
Both actresses however hugged it out at the end of the highly engaging session.

‘It is only a matter of time before Nollywood takes over the market from Hollywood. Every role/script I take must be women and children friendly and also respect my culture.Social media brought Nollywood closer to the people. Nollywood is on track to take over the market from Hollywood.’ Distribution is one of the major challenges in Nollywood.Nigeria’s interest in cinema can be traced back to the colonial era. With over 20 million Nigerians in Diaspora, there’s a wide market ready to consume Nigerian stories.In 2016, the economic impact of investing in local content amounted to N1.1 billion.We have the talent and we need to harness it, but first we must appreciate it.Piracy is another major challenge being faced by Nollywood and needs to be tackled to aid the growth of the industry.’
