Shields, was declared the new Miss America, while ex Miss America Betty Cantrell placed the coveted crown on her head.
“Every single girl here would do an amazing job as Miss America,” Shields said.
Shields is guaranteed a six-figure salary and paid expenses during her year-long reign, a $50,000 scholarship and an appearance agreement with Dick Clark Productions.
