Mariah Carey Sued By South American Concert Promoter, FEG

Mariah Carey was slammed by a South American concert promoter, Fenix Entertainment Group, for canceling two fall performances. Carey in January 2017, sued FEG Entretenimientos for breach of contract, claiming that she canceled the October 2016 shows in Argentina and Chile because the promoter did not pay the agreed full payment. The FEG, also known as Fenix, claims that it has a long history of working with UTA-signed artists, and even though it does not always strictly adhere to payment schedules, artists are still paid in full for their performance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the submission, the tour arrangements for both concerts were dated June 21, 2016, but were not executed and delivered to UTA until the end of September. Moreover, according to Fenix, there was no wording in the contracts that explained "time is of the essence" or any similar wording stating that failure to comply with the rule of the agreement would result in the termination of the agreement. Carey was scheduled to perform on October 28, 2016 in Argentina and October 30, 2016 in Chile, but on October 25 of this year, there remained a large unpaid balance for both shows and the singer canceled. Fenix claims to have paid about 75% of the funds due at that time, and discovered Carey's decision to cancel by the media. According to the complaint, the singer was required to give Felix 48 hours to repair any breach of his obligations before he could terminate the contract. Fenix also claims that Carey made false and defamatory statements on Twitter, suggesting that the shows were canceled due to the promoter's negligence, which led his clients to doubt his ability to pay the artists. The promoter is claiming more than $ 1 million in damages from the canceled programs, as well as another two million dollars in damages for defamation. ⠀⠀⠀
